Guest Q&A: Spencer Brinkerhoff III

Illustrator Spencer Brinkerhoff III is no stranger to the Vegas Valley Comic Book Fest. He’s been both a guest and an exhibitor in the past, and will be returning this year to lead our all-ages Art Jam happening in the Main Hall all day during the festival.

1. What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Happiness is finding un-budgeted cash and a night with no commitments.

2. What is your greatest fear?
I’m afraid I can’t say.

3. On what occasion do you lie?
I normally lie on questionnaires, but the rest of the time, I try and tell the truth (I’m a Boy Scout!).

4. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I have so many ideas and plans, I need to be better about documenting my inspirations and then following through on them.

5. What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Being a husband and father is my greatest achievement.  It’s not very easy!

6. What do you most dislike about yourself?
I dislike that I have been blessed with an incredible talent, and I haven’t figured out how to get rich from it!

7. Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
I found myself turning into Mufasa and telling my children, “You deliberately disobeyed me!”  I had to cut that one out.

8. What is your most treasured possession?
I have a photo in my workshop of my grandfather standing in his workshop.  I want to be like him.

9. What do you most value in your friends?
Honesty and creativity.

10. The quality you most admire in a person?
People that are motivated.

11. What supernatural gift would you most like to possess?
I’d like to be able to control time…

12. What is your favorite food?
I’m not too picky.  I like hot food, with meat.

13. What is your favorite color?
BLUE! No, green!

14. Who is your favorite fictional character?
Indiana Jones.

15. Who is your favorite person in history?
Walt Disney.

16. Who is your favorite artist?
Current favorites are Bruce Timm, Sean Galloway, and Jake Parker.

17. Who are your favorite writers?
JK Rowling, Rick Riordan, Joss Whedon…

18. Who are your heroes in real life?
My wife is a real hero.  Her greatest superpower is the way she puts up with me.

19. DC, Marvel, Lovecraft or Whedon Universe?
I’m a Firefly and Batman kinda guy.

20. What is your present state of mind?
Swamped.

21. What is your motto?
Do it, do it right, do it right now.
